In episode 9 our vamps are waiting at vamp camp to meet the sun because they refused to drink the Hep V tainted Tru Blood.
Little did they know that Eric and Bill were on the way to the save the day!
Our first drink for today is inspired by the culprit of our vamps true death if they had not been rescued.
MEET THE SUN
Ingredients:2 Tablespoons (1oz) rum (could use any other type of liquor)
1 Tablespoon (.5oz) strawberry simple syrup
3 Tablespoons (1.5oz) orange juice (about 1/2 navel orange)
3 Tablespoons (1.5oz) pineapple juice
1/4 cup (2oz) club soda
For the strawberry simple syrup (makes ~1 cup syrup):
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
3 large strawberries
For the strawberry simple syrup: Combine sugar, water, and strawberries into a small saucepan over high heat. Mash strawberries as the mixture comes to a boil. Boil for 30 seconds, then turn off the heat and allow syrup to cool completely. Transfer syrup to a food processor or blender, process until smooth, then strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove the strawberry seeds (optional.) Chill in the fridge.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add rum, strawberry simple syrup, orange juice, and pineapple juice. Shake until very cold. Pour into a glass, including the ice, then top with club soda.
After being rescued from the vamp camp prison, the vamps that drank from Bill to save themselves from meeting the sun walk out of the prison and into the sunlight. Of course they are all on a fairy blood high and rejoicing that they are able to enjoy the sun once again.
Our next drink is inspired by one of the effects that fairy blood has on vampires : daywalking.
1/2 measure (2 cl) of Cointreau
1/2 measure of Domaine de Canton Ginger cognac
Fill glass with Italian lemon-soda
Add a splash of Blood-orange bitters.
So how long do you think our vamps will be able to walk in the sun?
